Greetings from Mumbai! We’ve had a busy but wonderful first day here.
The flights went smoothly and uneventfully, and we were picked up at the Mumbai airport by the folks from JDC India.
After lunch and a chance to rest and freshen up, we toured a couple of the synagogues in the area and had a peek at the Dobi Ghats (central laundry–trust me, it’s a trip) before heading over to the Evelyn Peters Jewish Community Center.
We’ve had some icebreakers and get-to-know-you games with the Jewish Youth Pioneers (young Indians in their late teens and early 20s), had dinner, and are about to have a Bollywood dance lesson before heading back to the hotel to crash.
Tomorrow includes a little more touring of Mumbai and heading off for Alibag, the first of a number of villages that we’ll visit on the trip.
We’ll write again as Internet allows! In the meantime, know that we are safe, well-fed, happy and currently dancing up a storm! More posts and pictures to come.
